Ritzi Structural Engineering Consultants Ltd was previously appointed to survey Leisure Hotel for Chatsworth Hotel, and Sun Hotel in order to inspect and comment on the adequacy of the current fire escape stairs.
We have performed structural calculations in accordance with BS standards and provided structural solutions on how to reinforce the steel staircase and make it compliant as a fire escape route.
Inspection of fire escape metal stairs
Usually, the weakest part of the entire stair is the gallows bracket. The stairs, when supported on gallows brackets as are capable of taking one or two people and are not suitable as fire escapes and not capable of taking a mass evacuation. Overhauling the stair to achieve a mass evacuation can only be achieved by introducing additional supports.
